At Sundance Dental in Calgary, we understand that life doesn’t always go as planned, and sometimes dental problems erupt unexpectedly. That’s why our dental clinic offers dental emergency services, and we'll do everything in our power to ensure you receive the attention you deserve as promptly as possible.
There are a number of dental emergencies we see at Sundance Dental. Some common dental emergencies we see often include:
Toothaches
If you experience a toothache, it’s best to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. If you notice any swelling it could be a sign of a developing abscess and will require immediate treatment. In the meantime, consider over the counter pain medicine such as aspirin.
Lost Fillings or Crowns
Meet with your dentist as soon as possible should you lose a filling or crown. When you lose a crown, be sure to recover it and bring to your appointment.
Chipped or Broken Teeth
A broken or chipped tooth can be saved. Be sure to call your dentist immediately to explain the situation. If the break is small, we'll apply a simple white filling to fix the issue. For more serious breaks, a root canal may be needed. A crown may also be used to cap your chipped or broken tooth.
Knocked Out Teeth
If you have a permanent tooth knocked out, see a dentist as soon as possible. Retrieve the tooth by picking it up by its crown. If it looks clean, place it back in its socket. If this is not possible, place it carefully in a glass of cold white milk. The tooth may be able to be retained if replanted within 30 minutes.
Abscesses
An abscess is an infection that occurs around the root of the tooth or in the space between the gums and teeth. Do not leave an abscess untreated. The infection can damage tissue and surrounding teeth, and if left unchecked, can spread to other areas of the body.
