4 Oral Heath Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore

Taking care of your oral health doesn’t have to be a hassle. It’s important to keep an eye out for warning signs that your oral health might be in decline. Catching these symptoms early could save you a lot of time, pain and effort down the road. We here at Sundance Dental Clinic take pride in our ability to treat our patients with convenient and thorough services that will keep their teeth looking and feeling great. Let our team of dental professionals from our dental office in Calgary SE & SW educate you about a few of the following warning signs that should never be ignored when it comes to your oral health:

  1. Bleeding gumsYou should never ignore bleeding gums. They could be an early sign of gum disease along with swelling and colour change. If your gums bleed every time you brush your teeth—especially if you brush gently—it’s time to visit your dentist and have your symptoms diagnosed.
  2. Growths inside your mouth
The appearance of a growth inside your mouth should never be ignored, as it could be a symptom of oral cancer—which is responsible for over 10,000 deaths annually. Other common signs include lesions, lumps, and sores that don’t seem to heal. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should see a specialist right away, especially if you use tobacco, have a poor diet or a genetic history of cancer.
  3. Chronic dry mouth
Saliva is your body’s natural defence against tooth decay, which in turn helps you maintain healthy teeth and gums. If you experience persistent dry mouth, you could be at higher risk for premature tooth decay. Dry mouth could be the result of an underlying physical condition or the side effect of certain medications. See your dentist immediately so they can recommend ways to moisturize your mouth.
  4. Bad breath
Instances of bad breath are normal, but they should go away after you brush your teeth and floss. If your breath continues to smell consistently, it could be a sign of gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis could damage your jawbone and your gums. Consistent bad breath could also be a sign of untreated cavities, infections and even more serious conditions like diabetes or liver problems. If you experience chronic bad breath, see your dentist.
